Sustainable living by Saving Water

Water, Air, Energy. Out of these three, drinking water is the most scarce and fast depleting. Some scientists and environmentalists believe wars will be fought over water in the years to come. About 2.5% of the water on earth is available in fresh form and about 0.25% to 0.3 % of that is available for household purposes. So how does one ensure sustainable living at home by optimizing water consumption?

A typical urban family in India, having a family of 4 to 5 members, consumes about 900 liters of water per day. Out of the 900 liters, about 450 liters is expended through our bathroom showers. That accounts for 50% of our daily household water consumption. Just imagine that!!! In the remaining 450 liters, the second most water expending appliance is our kitchen taps, a typical kitchen tap expend about 250 liters of water daily. The remaining water consumption is distributed across laundry and toilets.

Needless to say, for sustainable living it is important to optimize the water consumption in our bathroom showers and kitchen taps. As a responsible citizen, we are bound to make decisions on sustainable living by consuming less water and opt for good kitchen and shower taps that optimizes water flow.
